The Region
The Kootenay Rockies region is located in the southern interior of BC, bordering Alberta and the U.S. and includes four National Parks (Yoho, Glacier, Mt. Revelstoke, Kootenay) as well as over 75 Provincial Parks. The Rocky Mountains rise in parallel with the ranges of the Purcell, Selkirk & Monashee (Columbia Mountains).
TransRockies has been operating in the Kootenay Rockies since our first event in 2002 and has visited all the major mountain bike communities in the region, known as the Kootenay Dirt Epic 8: Fernie, Kimberley, Rossland, Nelson & Kaslo, Golden, Revelstoke, Cranbrook, and Invermere/Panorama. Weaving through epic mountain and valley landscapes. The mountain bike trails in the Kootenay Rockies of British Columbia are hands down the best. Visit kootenaydirt.com for more information.
The 2025 Stages: An Historic Adventure Through the West Kootenays
Whether you choose to ride the Full Pint or Half Pint, we've got a mix of old-school and new-school riding on tap for 2025, and class will be in session as we take you through 30-plus years of mountain biking history in just 6 days.
You'll earn extra credit in the fabled community of Rossland, BC. One of the "OG" mountain biking destinations in North America, Rossland will be the only community to host multiple ST6 stages in 2025.
Rounding out the singletrack syllabus are Kaslo, New Denver, Salmo and Nelson, each hosting a single stage. And while these are all historic mountain towns in their own right, they're relatively new on the mountain biking scene, doling out fast-rolling, interactive lessons in modern singletrack design and building techniques.
All added up, ST6 2025 will provide an incredible depth and breadth of singletrack credentials among the deep valleys and towering peaks of the Selkirk Mountains.
Kaslo, BC
An ST6 stop in 2017 and 2024, the village of Kaslo was just finding its trail legs back then. No longer. With over 100 trails spread out over the Branch 7, Mount Buchanan and True Blue areas, this picturesque community on the west shore of Kootenay Lake now has something for everyone, from beginner to advanced. Many of the trails climb up into the mountains around town, offering spectacular views of the lake. And, as the epitome of the laid-back lifestyle towns in southern BC are known for, Kaslo is the perfect place to relax and unwind after a tough stage.
New Denver, BC
Located just 47km east of Kaslo on Slocan Lake, New Denver was founded in 1892 and developed as a service centre for nearby mines and mining towns. More recently, it's become an unofficial basecamp for the nearby rugged and remote Kokanee Glacier, Goat Range and Valhalla Provincial Parks. With its intricate network of logging roads and abandoned railway lines, New Denver is a trail builder's dream. And they've taken full advantage, using these well-graded tracks for trail access and jumping-off points, as well as for the trails themselves, which extend from town east toward the remote, sky-scraping Idaho Peak and north to the more descent-oriented, but intermediate, Rosebery area.
Rossland, BC
Nestled in the heart of the Kootenay Rockies, Rossland, BC, is a renowned mountain biking mecca with deep roots in the sport's history. Often called the "Mountain Bike Capital of Canada," this small, vibrant town has been a hub for riders since the early 1990s, with a trail network that includes legendary singletrack like the Seven Summits Trail-an IMBA Epic ride. The Rossland mountain biking community is passionate and welcoming, hosting events, races, and group rides that celebrate the area's rugged terrain, breathtaking scenery, and commitment to world-class trail development. Whether you're a seasoned rider or new to the sport, Rossland offers an unforgettable experience for all.
Salmo, BC
Tucked away in the Selkirk Mountains, Salmo, BC, is an emerging destination for mountain biking enthusiasts. Known for its small-town charm and welcoming community, Salmo has steadily grown its trail network, attracting riders who seek adventure off the beaten path. With a mix of flowy singletrack and technical terrain, Salmo offers a diverse riding experience in a stunning natural setting. The local mountain bike community, driven by passionate volunteers and trail builders, continues to develop new routes while preserving the area's wild, untamed spirit. Whether you're exploring the trails for the first time or looking for a fresh challenge, Salmo is a hidden gem that's sure to impress.
Nelson, BC
One of the birthplaces of mountain biking in BC, Nelson has been a legendary destination for mountain bikers—from XC to freeride-for decades and has been the backdrop to many mountain bike films. Singletrack 6 first visited this historic community in 2017, then again in 2024, but a lot has changed in 8 years as the Nelson Cycling Club continually adds new trails to the area's already vast collection. And with Kootenay Lake nearby, not to mention more than its fair share of top-notch restaurants and bike shops, Nelson boasts countless ways to stay occupied during your downtime.
“All aspects of the race were just awesome! The towns where we raced were great. The trails were so much fun... and pretty technical at times... and the support was top notch. ”
