2017 West Kootenays

West Kootenays: July 29th – August 3, 2017

In 2017, Singletrack 6 will serve up a completely new collection of the best mountain bike trails in Western Canada. In our fourth year of the ST6 format we are venturing west to the legendary trails of the West Kootenays. While a little further off the beaten path, once in the host communities, travel times will be minimal as the riding is concentrated among a few trail networks.

The event will kick off in Rossland and Red Mountain, which will host the first 3 days of the event, including the World Famous “Seven Summits” trail, an IMBA epic trail traversing the Rossland Range. Other stages will tour the vast trail networks in and around Red Mountain Resort and the charming Rossland townsite. The first three days will also offer the accessible 3-day ST3, for those who don’t have time for the full 6-day Singletrack 6 experience, all without moving between stages.

The Loamy Singletrack  of Nelson, B.C.

For continuing riders it’s on to Nelson for Stage 4, a short hour drive away. Long known for loamy soil and big, challenging freeride trails, Nelson’s inventory of world-class cross country riding has exploded in recent years. Our stages will pass through old growth cedar forests high into the Selkirks to offer stunning views on fun and challenging trails. Stage 5 will offer a diversion North to the town of Kaslo, an hour North on the shores of Kootenay Lake and some of the finest trails in the region. Then it’s back to Nelson for the final stage on the finest new and classic riding and the memorable final banquet.

Proposed stage distance and elevation (subject to change/permitting):

Stage 1: 41 km, 1600m of climbing
Stage 2: 31 km, 1500m of climbing
Stage 3: 36 km, 1200m of climbing
Stage 4: 45 km, 1600m of climbing

The 2017 event offers easy access to US riders via Spokane, just 2.5 hours away. International riders can make a connection through Calgary or Vancouver to Castlegar, conveniently located just half an hour from Rossland.
